Deb's Lunch ... and Dinner and Breakfast too

Food52 recipe testing

February 28, 2016 by ds83473@gmail.com

I am testing two recipes for Food52, and they both remind me of other recipes of mine.

The first one, tested (and eaten) on Saturday night, is Buttermilk and Rye Sticky Toffee Puddings (for two!)

My pudding, with ice cream

My pudding, with ice cream

Which reminds me of Pumpkin Sticky Pudding, that I made a few times for School Woods dinners, with one notable disaster, when I made two puddings in 13 x 9 x 2 inch glass baking dishes and broke one in the driveway while I was loading the car to head over to the dinner. Which fortunately had been commissioned by a group of hospice care workers, who were basically unflappable – and I had plenty of ice cream and caramel sauce, so the single pudding stretched to feed everyone.

The second one, that I was supposed to make Tuesday, is pasta with cabbage, browned butter & walnuts. And it (still) reminds me of this one, a pasta I made to use up leftover cabbage braised in cream, from Molly Wizenberg’s Homemade Life, even though I never made it. And, since I never made the pasta, I might just have to make the braised cabbage.

Today winter came back in Madison.

I went out and shoveled and then I took the bus to work. I went one stop past my normal, so I could go get a bag of clementines at the Fresh Market, since they looked good when I walked by the day before. So I had a few blocks to walk to the office, and I slipped and fell. Hit my head. A passing gentleman held out his hand to help me up.

I had a longish workday, and had to teach my 2 1/2 hour face-to-face class. When I got home, about 5:30, it was like I’d never shoveled. There was a blazing pink sunset, and Megan got home in time to help, so I guess it wasn’t that bad. Except now, almost 9:00, I’m really sore from the fall and the shoveling I think.

So that’s my excuse for not making the pasta. I made pizza instead – one BBQ chicken, and one argula pesto, with goat cheese and caramelized onion.

And here’s the rest of the weekend’s pics – posted on Tuesday – pretty good, huh?
