Deb's Lunch ... and Dinner and Breakfast too

High level puttering

May 27, 2016 by ds83473@gmail.com

It was raining this morning so I decided to work at home. As soon as I got out of bed – before 7:00, before feeding the cats – the meanderings started. I turned on my computer to send a message to work that I was working at home, and checked into my online course to see if there were any student questions. Everyone’s introducing themselves on the discussion board now, including me. Which lead me to spending about 10 minutes updating links on my “professional” blog which is linked to off my faculty page at the library school – in case any students went there.

Then I came downstairs and fed the cats, and took some pictures of Khan.

OK, photograph experts - which is the better shot? left, with ears not cut off, but more extraneous junk in the background - or right with ears cut off but a better eyes?

The white cat left a few stains on the toilet seat in my bathroom, so I looked for something to scrub it with, and wound up emptying and recycling ancient cleaning supplies. The cleaner who worked for us from like 2001 to 2005, hired by my Mom, liked soft scrub, so there were two old squeeze bottles of that. I just hired new cleaners last fall who use products that I buy – in between we had a service that brought its own. I like Comet and we’re out; also have to buy more toilet cleaner for the current cleaners. They’ve been using some old stuff that I don’t like the smell of; I think it’s Lysol Basin Tub & Tile. Going to replace with Mrs. Meyer’s.

Last night I thawed out some thickened rhubarb puree because I thought I’d eat some with yogurt for a work lunch – I didn’t have any other fruit – and make the rest into coffee cake. Since I was working at home, no work lunch, so I figured I might as well make the cake first, and eat what was left of the rhubarb, if any, with yogurt. I made the cake square and left out the grated orange rind and put in a big glug of vanilla paste – vanilla with lots of vanilla bean seeds in it.

All of which meant I got back to work by 9:00, and accomplished a few things. I worked until about 2:30, then took a shower and we walked in the rain to see The Lobster, that we had wanted to see at TIFF but couldn’t get in. It was weird and funny. I think I’d have rather gone to see A Bigger Splash, reviewed in the New Yorker with a movie we did see at TIFF, The Man Who Knew Infinity. But hey, it’s a 3-day weekend – maybe we can go tomorrow.
