STOP. Please. Or if you’re thinking about joining a march, don’t go.
Here’s why.
See these kids:
They’re celebrating Trump’s victory on election night, and if you look at them one way, yes, they do look like Hitler youth. But look again – they really look like your kids – or the kids in your neighborhood. They’re just kids.
Don’t make them – and everyone who supported Trump, even the ones who are older and should be wiser – hate us more. All us old hippies; pinkos; lefties; punk rockers; Black people; Asians; Latinos; Native Americans; anyone who looks not quite white, including the Jews; Muslims; Gays; Lesbians; Transgender; liberal, educated, white elitists who drink fancy coffee out of reusable travel mugs; people who believe climate change is real; people who ride bikes and try not to drive cars – older women who remind them of their mom, and that strict teacher who told them what to do, and yup, Hillary Clinton.
Give Trump a chance to get into office and disappoint them all. Let them start hating HIM – not us. Especially with the Republicans in charge, and guns laws getting overturned – they’re all gonna be armed.
Work within the system – for those who remember the 60’s and 70s, that was the mantra back then – and when the backlash against Trump happens, we can take back the government.
Run for office yourself. Find an organization that is doing what your believe and support them – League of Women Voters, 350.org, Human Rights Campaign – there’re only about a million of them.
Make love, not war.
Listen to our old heros – the late Phil Ochs and Tom Hayden; and other old guys who are still writing, like Garrison Keillor.
Stop marching. Don’t make them hate us. Make them hate Trump. Please. Thank you.
