Deb's Lunch ... and Dinner and Breakfast too

Should feel more elated

November 9, 2018 by ds83473@gmail.com

I guess. Tuesday was the election and in some respects the good guys won.

We got rid of our evil governor here in WI, but as my colleague Meredith said Wednesday, “he’s already sold the farm to Foxconn.”

And the map of our state still looks alarmingly red.

Of course I could be feeling less than elated because <whine>on Monday night while I was walking home I started feeling like I was getting a cold, and I had an online class – that failed miserably, and I’m still not sure why – it was all tech that had worked fine before. I blame the amped-up security in the Firefox web browser. Which meant I had to record a demo of what I was supposed to be showing synchronously in the class, which had me working until 9:30 pm. And then I got up worked the polls Tuesday, 11 hours or so – 7:00 to 12:30 then 2:30 to 8:30. And then I still had to go to work in the morning on Wednesday, and then teach a class until 8:00 pm. that night.

Plus, the house is ripped up because the painters came Monday and I spent a couple of hours on Sunday afternoon – after we had like 12 people over for brunch (I made a salad with the leftovers) – unloading the living room shelves of old cooking magazines, and CDs, and broken wooden airplanes, and miscellaneous lego, and stuff like a papier mâché mask John made for a school parade in 5th grade. After the stuff moving I still had to grade like 20 assignments …. but the paint’s all done now and it looks great. The dining room is green and the living room is blue and the ceilings and hallway are eggshell. No pics yet, but I gave away the old black leather, cat-clawed, IKEA couch last night to make way for the new. The guys who took away my old leather couch, who were fully adult, domesticated males, were very, very, careful when I told them we just got painted. I’m sure it’s going to a man cave to watch the Packers.

I put it on one of those local social networks and Craigslist and two guys came and hauled it away Thursday.

And I got up Friday and rode the bus to Minneapolis for the tech-y library conference that Mark runs. Last time we were here was 2015.</whine>

So all in all I’m just a little too tired and busy and my throat’s too sore to feel as good about the elections as I think I should.

Not to mention the headlines like here is WI, “GOP Assembly Speaker Robin Vos threatens to take power away from Tony Evers before January“, or even worse the stuff out of Washington. Although it is encouraging to see all the Protect Mueller protests, although I have not taken part in any of them as yet.
