Deb's Lunch ... and Dinner and Breakfast too

Pandemic

March 13, 2020 by ds83473@gmail.com

Friday the 13th, working at home, and getting another email about a cancellation or closing every half hour or so.

Italy, where everyone is quarantined and singing:

US, where a sports journalist (Utah Jazz reporter for The Salt Lake Tribune), a.k.a. white, fairly privileged guy, can’t get tested:

and we have the last person in the world you’d want in a crisis, in charge.

At Colectivo, they’re washing their hands and wiping down all the surfaces and they can’t fill up my personal cup – of course, they don’t know where it’s been. Even in happier times the coffee places want me to take the lid off myself. But I can show my cup to them and get the personal cup discount, and then dump my coffee from the paper cup they just served it to me in, into my own cup, myself.

The food pantry where I serve a meal is not going to have people come in and select their own groceries – they’ll get a prepacked bag delivered to their cars or handed to them. So no meal while they wait their turn to shop.

UW-Madison has us all teaching online, and although we can go into our offices, gatherings of over 50 can’t happen on campus.

Madison Public Schools are closed.

The Wisconsin Film Fest is canceled.

Overture Center performances are canceled for a month – no Wicked.

Madison Symphony says they’ll tell us next week, but CSO and Lyric are already cancelled, and the Art Institute of Chicago and Museum of Contemporary Art are closed for about 30 days each.

Record Store Day is moved to June.

Ha, newest one – I can go to the drive up at my credit union, but lobby service is canceled.
