Feeling Helpless

September 24, 2020 by ds83473@gmail.com

Watching the trainwreck that is our country at the moment. Trying to figure out something I can do …. I will be registering voters and accepting absentee ballots in a city park, and I also signed up to register students to vote on campus. And I will be an election official again. I guess that’s all something. I really miss my food volunteering. The other day when I was out for a bike ride I saw one of the older guys who was a regular at the community meal I used to help cook and serve at Goodman, and I wish there was something I was doing like that. But due to pandemic, most of the food pantries have had to have volunteers only doing things like delivering meals, or packing food boxes – no cooking. Which I totally get, but I still miss the cooking.

And, it’s really fall now, although we’re supposed to have highs near 80° the next couple of days.

Soundtrack of my walk this morning:

Today I think I’ve been seesawing down and up even more then yesterday.

↓ Trump says he won’t agree to a peaceful transfer of power – because he’s such a fucking idiot, much as he rants about our glorious history he doesn’t know that the peaceful transfer of power is one of the things the U.S. does right. Leaving aside all the questions of who ever gets into that power – that’s the part we’ve been screwing up for 400 years.

↑ My sourdough bread looks good.

This is the dough lump phase – it’ll be in the fridge overnight, and not be a loaf of bread until tomorrow afternoon sometime

In other cooking adventures, because I was starting the sourdough process and needed to use discard, Tuesday we had sourdough naan, and green bean and kale curry (recipe that came with my CSA box, from Lauren Rudersdorf).

And just so everything in this post won’t be off-white and tan, here are some blown roses from Wednesday morning.

And tonight we had butternut squash and black bean chili (actually pinto & black bean in this case, using up several kinds of cooked beans I had in the fridge and freezer – satisfying!), and pumpkin muffins (I used this kabocha squash that roasted up really dry, and was crumbly, but I put it into the food processor with the oil and honey and egg that go into the muffin recipe, and made it all smooth, and the muffins are quite nice, so that was also satisfying), and guacamole & chips. No pictures (not satisfying).
