Deb's Lunch ... and Dinner and Breakfast too

OK, what was that about food & cooking again?

October 7, 2020 by ds83473@gmail.com

As I’ve complained recently, I just haven’t been photographing all the food I’ve been cooking for just the two of us. And, we’re getting to that time of year when it’s too dark in the evening to take good, natural light, food shots.

I’ve been having some successes and some failures, too.

So in the spirit of making up, here’s a few things.

Brown butter blondies

Brown butter blondies – I had some kind of bar cookie jinx going on at the beginning of pandemic – I had a few crazy failures. But these are perfect. Of course there are 3 sticks of butter in the recipe so of course they are delicious – so delicious

In this picture I recreated the shot in the recipe, showing the brown butter ripple, though no vanilla ice cream. We ate them with vanilla ice cream on Sunday when they were warm and I highly recommend.

I made sourdough corn muffins and we ate them for the first time with leftover black been chili last Saturday. I’ve also been splitting and toasting them and eating them with honey and butter for breakfast.

I made Dan Dan Noodles from a Cook’s Illustrated recipe on Friday, when we had just gotten back from Door County. They were OK. I think I like an older recipe from Saveur better. I used my homemade kimchi in place of the preserved vegetable, that I think is pickled mustard greens.

Sunday brunch: Moosewood Mexican egg frittata

And sourdough cherry pancakes

I finally saw the Harvest Moon on Monday morning, when it was waning, and setting.

And, another reminder to look up.

But of course what’s really on my mind is this.

See that most darkest, reddest, spot, kind of in the shape of your left hand. Yup, Wisconsin, where I live.

And reusing a pic of the cinnamon roll apple pie that I thought was was one of our Thanksgiving pies last year, because hey, tis [almost] the season – but in reality I just made it at random in early November. Although – I might’ve made a slab pie version for Thanksgiving last year – doesn’t seem like I posted the 2019 Thanksgiving menu to my blog, so I’ll have to go look at those splattered notebooks that sit next to the stove!

And, P.S. yes, sort of – looks like what I did was make an apple crisp with those cinnamon roll pie crust swirls on top – in lieu of the crisp topping – and no bottom crust.
