Deb's Lunch ... and Dinner and Breakfast too

Waiting

November 7, 2020 by ds83473@gmail.com

I started writing this on Thursday afternoon, when like everyone else, I was waiting to hear the outcome of the election, and I didn’t really wanna talk about it, much, except to share my bafflement and horror at the fact that the election is so close. What does it say about our country that for so many people, the sheer horror of the Trump administration is OK?

Also like everyone else, I’ve been eating and drinking too much the last few days. And I indulged in online shopping, too. Halloween candy!

Now that it’s Saturday afternoon, and the election’s been called, the country is still divided and there’s a lot of work to be done. But it’s got to get better – right?! Although I know it’s still a question of better for who? I’m hopeful, though. That’ll it be better for more of us, not just rich white people. I’m not as hopeful as when Obama gt elected in 2008, and not even as much as 1992 when Clinton got in – and look how well that went … I hope we’ll rejoin the Paris Climate Accord, and start getting going on climate change and green jobs.

And Pennsylvania, where I grew up, and Wisconsin, where I live now, both flipped blue. Thank you Arizona, and Stacey Abrams, and all the shades of Ollena Tyrell out there.

Friday morning, still waiting, I made morning glory muffins with cream cheese topping.

Mark got the garage all dry walled and painted, and we spent this afternoon getting all the dust cleaned up. Last year when we had the garage built, we only had the contractors do as much drywall as was necessary to meet fire codes, just the one corner closest to the house, because it was going to cost something like another $1500 to get the whole thing done. In the end the garage was so expensive that that was kind of penny-wise. But anyways, it’s done now and it looks great and I think we’ll eat a socially distanced small Thanksgiving dinner out there. I vacuumed and mopped the floor, and we carried the grill back in, and my car is parked in the garage for the first time in a couple of months.

Now it’s off to the kitchen to make pork chops and apple mashed potatoes (trying a Food 52 recipe) and sauteed Napa cabbage.
