Deb's Lunch ... and Dinner and Breakfast too

Nothing left but fruitcake

January 8, 2021 by ds83473@gmail.com

There’s nothing left of the holiday goodies but fruitcake, oh and a few crystalized ginger shortbreads. And a tupperware of marzipan dates. I’m sure I’ll manage to consume it all – none of these are varieties Mark likes – and I think as long as I don’t eat it all in one day, just spread it out a bit, it won’t be too detrimental to my waistline.

Goodies are required because what a shit show of a week. I saw Rachel Brosnahan on Colbert last night promo-ing her new movie (though she’ll always be Mrs. Maisel to me) and she said let’s just give January 2021 back to 2020, and start in February.

Fortunately my twitter is full of musicians and librarians so that’s my perspective.

Where are the handcuffs and paddy wagons? They were available in Portland and Seattle for #BlackLivesMatter …

is there a word to describe something that is both shockingly horrifying and utterly predictable?

I tried to start the week with a good breakfast, homemade sourdough toast, pickled egg, peanut butter and apricot jam – extra thick, because it’s got the solids I strained to make jam cookie filling mixed in.

1st Monday in 2021 brekkie

And walks were pretty. We had freezing fog every night that frosted everything and Tuesday we even had sun.

University Avenue with frost on Monday
Frosted berries on Monday
Frosted trees & sun on Tuesday

Frosted bike path & sun on Tuesday
Frosted pine on Wednesday morning
Spikey frost on Thursday

Then on Wednesday afternoon, we were getting ready to go down to my office to vacate the premises so the cleaners could work, and the headlines started.

I guess now that it’s finally Friday, there has been some hopeful news. Twitter revoked Trump’s account permanently. Simon & Shuster won’t publish scumbag Hawley’s book. There’s lots of acknowledgement that Black protesters would have been treated differently. I mean how many vandals got arrested? 15? Jeez. More and more people are saying Trump is unfit and should be removed, or even better resign. The FBI is going after the members of the mob who were allowed to walk away on Wednesday. Even the Milwaukee Journal is calling for our Wisconsin senators who continued to support Trump to resign or be kicked out. But still so many questions … what kind of collusion was going on, why were there so few cops, and why did they just stand there? What’s going to happen on Inauguration Day? And like Nancy Pelosi I’m afraid Trump could still start a nuclear war.
