Acquiring

October 18, 2021 by ds83473@gmail.com

So, the last week and a half or so, I’ve been acquiring things. Maybe it’s the change in the seasons (it’s finally cooled off, although it still seems a little warm for October), maybe it’s coming out of pandemic, but I’ve been buying stuff, some for me, some for the house. Maybe it’s because I feel like I can’t do anything really major to the house now – siding, clean the basement, new oven, new washer/dryer – because of no time because I’m not retired yet, not to mention supply chain and the impossibility of getting work done right now, so maybe I feel like small tweaks is a good thing.

I got some new shoes; to me they look like my Mary Poppins shoes.

I bought a new rug for the side door – that we use more than the front door. It’s this kind called Ruggable, that’s a washable cotton rug, with a pad that kind of sticks to the floor and the rug sticks to the pad (velcro), and the whole thing is thin enough that it fits under the door and doesn’t get rucked up when you open the door, going in or out.

I still haven’t quite decided how to do the cookie party this year, although I know I don’t want to do as many contact-less pick up, pre-ordered boxes as I did for my cookie benefit last year. I was up till 2:00 AM three nights in row packing those! (well, 2:00 AM 2 nights, and then like 12:30 the third because that was the light night …) Anyways, I’m thinking of course I’ll pack my boxes to ship like usual, and then maybe do some pre-order pick ups, but also have people come over and pack their own boxes, make maybe reserves so there’s never more than like 30 people here at a time. So, the acquiring part is I ordered the clam shells, and also some wax paper cookie bags, and some soup cups for the fragile cookies. And I do have a bag of saved containers in the basement, ones that had figs or dried cranberries or other to go foods in them, washed out, plus Emma’s mom is giving me more – they’re orange so more Halloween-y, but I’m sure they’ll be the right size for someone. So there’ll be plenty.

Some of the acquiring is entertainment. We went to see the Gleam light show at Olbrich Gardens last Thursday. It was fun, even though even with timed entry, people clumped up the way they always do in museums.

I bought a case of my new favorite peanut butter, that I was introduced to by Rach, because I’m down to one jar (well one unopened jar, plus one opened one at home, and one on my desk at work).

And some socks.

And some hankies that I don’t have a picture of yet, because it seemed like I kept losing the ones I’ve got, but (of course) since I ordered more, I found one in the pocket of a pair of shorts at the bottom of the laundry hamper and two sorta balled up together behind my computer monitor upstairs.

And I bought some baking stuff – parchment paper, and dried fruit, and mini chocolate chips for the World Peace cookies.

No music, though, at least not purchased. I’ve been listening to John Lennon, Jeff Tweedy (Gwendolyn, “the sun come up like a piece of toast”), and for some reason last night I had an urge to hear Peggy-o and of course there were at least 4 versions in my iPod, and I chose Red Rocks 9-6-1983. I think I was there (Actually, I know I was – the next night was Brother Esau, that I’d never heard before, and Cassidy —> China Cat —> Rider) Followed by this cover from the National – that is, in my iPod, not Red Rocks.

Good night.
