Deb's Lunch ... and Dinner and Breakfast too

The power of exercise & caffeine

April 21, 2023 by ds83473@gmail.com

The featured image shows my Monday morning when I was resisting doing my non-weight-bearing exercises – but I did finally get moving and felt better for it.

Tuesday was a Jasper day and we had some fun but he was a little unsettled and I probably am not hipped enough into his, as Al said, “sleep, change diaper, eat, play, cadence”. He looked like this by nighttime, 8:46 PM when I do not think he is supposed to be awake.

He was doing OK in the AM before I got there.

And Wednesday he turned 5 months.

For me Wednesday started with a mammogram, and work in the office for a bit, Spring plenary and a student appointment. I stopped at Whole Foods on the way home and bought some apples and a chunk of cheese and some chocolate that was kind of my doom later. I came home and made a mushroom, spinach, potato, and bacon galette for dinner. It was good, and I should’ve been satisfied but somehow I hung out in the kitchen after dinner and ate a bunch of the chocolate and the last four cookies, two servings, from the pack of Girl Scout Lemonades that I had picked up after my last shift at the food pantry, when I was still allowed to go there, and mostly used for the crust of some cheesecake bars I made on Easter Sunday.

So Thursday morning I woke up feeling less motivated than Monday, guilty & stomach not so happy. That’s when the power of exercise and caffeine happened. I did my exercises and made coffee and then made a batch of morning glory muffins – what I wanted the apples for, in fact. And felt a lot better, especially after I had one of the muffins and a warm, jammy, egg for breakfast.

A bakers dozen of morning glory muffins – with coffee cup.

Good thing Thursday started off well, because we had to attend a 2 hour and 20 minute zoning board meeting so that we can build the screen porch on top of the existing addition to the back of the house. The house was built in 1924 and we think the addition was added in 1933, and evidently for the last 90 years it’s been one foot too close to the back lot line. That backs up to the parking lot of a multi-unit rental. Translation – nobody cares. But fortunately we passed, so the job can proceed. Although next week is going to be the electrical work to cure the knob & tube, and I think I’ll be spending a lot of time in my office since the power will be turned off and the electrician will be drilling holes in the walls. It’s supposed to take 8-10 days.

I’ve been trawling through my photos trying to find something fun to post on insta but not finding much, So must be time to go cook dinner. I’m going to try this Carla Lalli Music melted cauliflower pasta – posted by Nigella. I’m going to sub in miso for the anchovies. I think it will all be fine. ça va bien – I’ve also been reading another Inspector Gamache – I think it’s the newest.

I’ll let you know, with hopefully a pic or two.

PS, the cauliflower pasta was good, not great, and kind of on the brown side.

Here it is on Insta
