Deb's Lunch ... and Dinner and Breakfast too

Never enough time

July 23, 2024 by ds83473@gmail.com

Whatta week … I was gonna say more like 9 days since I last posted but it’s really only been a week.

The political news is crazy, the weather is changeable, and I haven’t been doing very well at photographing food. Or at any of my retirement re-organization projects. Or any of my more vague creative projects.

I feel like all I’ve been doing is going to my volunteer jobs and sopping up the basement. Saturday and Sunday a week ago there were thunderstorms, enough that I had to sop, although we got rainbows on Sunday night. I’m using one for my iPhone wallpaper now. And I had to sop Sunday morning, but not Sunday night. Then the following Monday night I had to sop again. I got a bit of a break until this morning (Tuesday, July 23) when at first it seemed like it had settled into a quiet all day rain, then it started thundering and pouring. I had to get out the shop vac; the last times I’d made do with a mop and towels.

And since I’m running out of time tonight, I’m going to fill in the pictures for now with not a lot of text, and maybe more later.

I had a lot of bread that I made into croutons, that I used in chicken zucchini casserole, and cherry salad, and the last in panzanella.

Pizza with sourdough crust – last Thursday’s dinner

Gluten free peanut butter cookies

Oatmeal cookies, made with oats from the bulk aisle at the co-op that just did not get soft enough. I ground the oats up for bread and it’s Bob’s Red Mill for me now. Yes, I know it comes in a plastic bag, ziploc no less. I will use it to pack cookies in when I ship the boxes in December

Summer fruit crisp, 2 nectarines, a plum, and a few handfuls each of blueberries and cherries, also with those hard oats, but ground

We went for a long walk on Friday, 8 miles, and saw cranes crossing the street with their offspring

Along with the insane politics we had the CrowdStrike crash. Even on the radio, Ari Shapiro was saying in the last 8 days we’ve had an assassination attempt and Biden pulling out of the presidential race. And CrowdStrike. And thunderstorms.

Plucots & fizzy water on the porch

Whew, made it and it’s not quite 9:00pm yet. I will do better. Real Soon Now.
