I think the fabric of the universe has been rent asunder.
The weather has been nuts – it can’t stay cold and keeps going up and down. On Monday it was in the 40s, up to 50° on Tuesday, then the wind rose and temperature dropped to the 20s by Wednesday morning and we got a little dust of snow. It was so windy and cold Wednesday that I took Jasper to an indoor play place. Worth the $20, I’d say.

Thursday it was cold enough that I wore top and bottom long underwear, but got so hot walking home after an errands that I thought I wouldn’t make it up the small hill going east on Kendall, 2 blocks from home. I had a good bit of heavy stuff in my backpack, the knives I’d just had sharpened, a hunk of pork roast to supplement what I had in the freezer for a dinner party Sunday, and a bag of spices and cocoa from Penzey’s. Or else I’m about to have a heart attack, but that’s another story.
A week ago Wednesday, ICE killed someone in Minneapolis.

Hundreds gathered at Portland Ave and E 34th St in Minneapolis to mourn 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good.

And things have continued nuts in Minneapolis, ICE is dragging people out of their houses and shoving them into black vans. People are out in the streets and the president is threatening to send in the troops.
And, that’s not even counting the invasion of Venezuela and saber rattling about invading Greenland, and uncountable forms of idiocy the Trump administration is engaging in.
John and Megan had to put their old cat, Khan, down.

He was moving pretty slowly when we visited in December and he was about 16, so it’s not a surprise, but it’s still hard.
Then last Saturday, Bob Weir died. The baby of the Grateful Dead. My instagram has turned into bobweiragram. It’s been interesting to see all the connections, all the other musicians he played with, there was even one post from a realtor who remembered Bob favorably. But it’s all a bit much.

On Tuesday, the UW Friends of the Libraries, whose book sale I’ve volunteered for since 2014, got kicked off campus. No book sale this spring. It’s a much longer and more complicated story, but that’s the nickel synopsis.

And now it’s been almost a week since I started this and all I’ve got is some food pictures to end.

Greens and peanut butter sandwich

Caramelized onion and spinach quiche and cranberry muffin tops for Sunday brunch

The last date with almond paste
