Deb's Lunch ... and Dinner and Breakfast too

Failure to write

November 18, 2025 by ds83473@gmail.com

I had all the best intention to write sooner this time, but the best of intentions in Scottish, Robert Burns I think, “gang aft agley”.

So now I think I have to try to remember my thoughts since November 5th. Good memory exercise.

And oh, oops, even before November 5, all the way back to Halloween, John & Megan celebrated a year of home ownership on Halloween.

Back in Madison, we had eggs and potatoes for breakfast on the firsat Sunday of November. Here’s the potatoes raw

And cooked

I tried to start a “leftover vegetables for lunch” series. Here’s part 1, Caesar roasted broccoli and some of those breakfast potatoes, followed by part 2, carrots and purple cauliflower. I thought part 2 might be some miso-glazed turnips I made in between, but they got kind of watery leftover. I ate most of them cold one night while I was cooking dinner.

I played around a little more with the savory kolache dough (HT Bronwen Wyatt), shaping them into pinwheels. It wasn’t a good test, though, because I used a different pesto, dill & arugula instead of parsley, and I didn’t have enough squash filling really. But they were tasty. And I made half the dough into cimmy buns that were also pretty good. The filling:dough ratio wasn’t quite right, but they were good.

John & Megan are moving to the vegan side of vegetarianism, eating less dairy, so I made a batch of squash mac&cheese, that still has some cheese but way less them regular. I discovered I’d had the reduced-fat variant in my regular mac&cheese recipe for years.

I also made some challah with squash.

The last time Jasper was here we went to see the tiger at the zoo.

After breakfast. There’s apple cider in his Woody cup

And here’re some other photos of food and fall, in Madison and Chicago.

Jasper’s 3rd birthday is tomorrow, but the party was Sunday.

And I guess that’s it for now. Maybe we’ll have more birthday fun tomorrow.
