Deb's Lunch ... and Dinner and Breakfast too

It’s not Seattle

January 25, 2020 by ds83473@gmail.com

This is the kind of day it’s been.

The angel cake didn’t fall but it fell out of the pan. The texture and everything look fine – I think I’ll still be able to serve it, but it’s disappointing.

Last year this day I was in Seattle, at the end of my one month sabbatical there, saying goodbye to my brother’s house and dog and neighborhood. Feeling a lot better about myself, and close to 5 pounds thinner than I am now.

Sigh.

All pics that don’t say Madison are Seattle.

And what about food you say?

I made beans with hamhock, the classic winter dish.

I made some apricot-white chocolate scones with a white chocolate drizzle, a week ago Saturday, that Mark liked. We all did really. He sent a picture to all our former exchange students on WhatsApp.

I also made the cast iron pan pizza from King Arthur Flour. Now I want a 10-inch cast iron pan – I have an 8 and a tiny one that was my mom’s – not sure how many inches it is, but it’s like single serving; an egg or maybe 2.

But that’s all last weekend. Belinda & Stephen had their baby shower here this Sunday and I made desserts – cheese cake, one with Moravian ginger thin crust, and one with Windmill cookie crust (that came out a little weird this year – I wasn’t sure I put in enough brown sugar and added it at the end and some of them had a kind of sugar swirl), made in quarter sheet pans and cut into squares; the fallen angel cake, above, all serve with a big bowl of Door County cherry sauce, and mascarpone whipped cream. And the last of the Pffernuse, retrieved from the freezer, and another King Arthur, choco-mallow, kind of a rocky road fudge, that people got to late in the party but really liked. And these lazy woman’s canelé, mochi cakes that I think I over baked but they were still good.

If life’s a bowl of cherries, let’s dive in.
