baby boy’s baby

It’s almost May

April 30, 2023 by ds83473@gmail.com

Google remembers the dearly departed Alan Rickman. Google Doodle, April 30, 2023 Kind of nice to commemorate a day when he had a career success in the theater, rather than death day, or even birthday. What a week – the electricians are here, curing the knob & tube – essentially rewiring the entire house – … [Read more…]

The power of exercise & caffeine

April 21, 2023 by ds83473@gmail.com

The featured image shows my Monday morning when I was resisting doing my non-weight-bearing exercises – but I did finally get moving and felt better for it. Tuesday was a Jasper day and we had some fun but he was a little unsettled and I probably am not hipped enough into his, as Al said, … [Read more…]

A lazy start to a Monday

March 8, 2023 by ds83473@gmail.com

I didn’t get out of bed until 7:30 on Monday and didn’t get logged on to my work computer until almost 11:00. This week in my crutch weaning program, I’m at no crutches in the house and starting short walks of about 5-10 minutes w/o crutches OK on Tuesday. I was going to go back … [Read more…]

Chicago for a Friday symphony and dinner with John & Megan

February 26, 2023 by ds83473@gmail.com

Friday we went to Chicago to see the symphony and have dinner with John & Megan. I’m still on crutches for walking outdoors, even though I don’t need them in the house right now, so we took a lot of Lyfts. I thought we might take the L more, but everyone’s saying it’s filthy and … [Read more…]

Valentine’s Day 2023

February 14, 2023 by ds83473@gmail.com

And trip to Chicago on crutches. Sunday we went to Chicago to see The Factotum, a modern opera that’s sort of the Barber of Seville, set in a Southside Chicago barbershop. One of the main artists who created it is Will Liverman, who sang adult Charles in Fire Shut Up In My Bones, that we … [Read more…]

Time apart

February 11, 2023 by ds83473@gmail.com

So I kinda let last weekend and week get away from me – actually all of February so far, since my last post it was still January. And it was freezing cold & snowy then, as opposed to the sunny & 42° it is now. Or, well, one of the weather apps says 43 and … [Read more…]

Coping, I guess

January 29, 2023 by ds83473@gmail.com

Since I can’t go anywhere, I’ve been indulging in sleeping later – until 7:30 – and staying in pajamas later, too. Even so, without the commute, I’ve been starting work earlier and ending later. When I work from home, I can either work upstairs where it’s warmer and I have my up/down desk & big … [Read more…]

Housebound

January 22, 2023 by ds83473@gmail.com

I  got my crutches on Tuesday afternoon, so today (Sunday) is my 5th full day with them. I think I’m getting somewhat used to them. My arms & chest are less sore – I think Thursday was the worst night. I’ve gotten out on the crutches a few times. Wednesday I went to work – … [Read more…]

The verdict

January 14, 2023 by ds83473@gmail.com

So the verdict on my knee, revealed by the MRI, is that it’s broken, and generally F’d up. Insufficiency fracture – a type of stress fracture; meniscus tears; arthritis; deteriorated cartilage; and some kind of cyst where the knee lube fluid is draining to. The results showed up in my MyChart Thursday evening while I … [Read more…]

The continuing saga

January 10, 2023 by ds83473@gmail.com

The saga of my knee continues. I think I told you that the last time I went to PT, the therapist confirmed that the orthotics (prescribed by the 1st PT who was a maternity leave fill-in) didn’t seem to be helping, and I should send them back to get adjusted, and stop wearing them until … [Read more…]
