I’ve been trying to write something  since last weekend, or I guess that’s actually weekend before last since I started writing this Tuesday, and now it’s Wednesday, Thursday and I’m falling further behind all the time. Let’s see if I can at least remember the food. This is going to be a looong post, Blogger … [Read more…]

May might be almost as bad as April this year

May 23, 2019 by ds83473@gmail.com

Or maybe I’m just having a bad week. Monday I put the first scratches on my car. I was pulling into a parking spot at my campus ramp, like I’ve done a million times, and there was this terrible scratching noise, and voilà. The true horror of it is look how many different pieces of … [Read more…]

And, I’m back

white violets

Time for Wisconsin, and Illinois,  fun. I collected my bag and drove home from the Milwaukee airport and was home by 2:00. Plenty of time for unpacking and a dinner of leftovers (Beef enchiladas, Metcalfe’s deli coleslaw, Zatarain’s Spanish rice mix with added chicken) followed by Game of Thrones, the Starbucks cup episode. I remain … [Read more…]

Saint Paddy’s Day in Chicago

March 17, 2019 by ds83473@gmail.com

We didn’t really go to Chicago to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. We had tickets for the opera Saturday – the Lyric doing La Traviata – and we were supposed to go to a Chicago Symphony chamber concert Sunday afternoon. And, I wanted to take John out for his birthday, coming up on Monday. The chamber … [Read more…]

An under 24-hour trip to Chicago

October 13, 2018 by ds83473@gmail.com

On Wednesday I went to Chicago to see Robyn Hitchcock. I took the bus both ways, left at 1:00 Wednesday and was back in Madison by 12:30 Thursday so it was a quick trip. Fun though. Robyn had an electric band with him, so I was hoping for more Soft Boys and Egyptians tunes, and … [Read more…]

Chicago for David Byrne & CSO

June 2, 2018 by ds83473@gmail.com

I took the day off on Friday and we took the train to Chicago – driving to Harvard IL to get it. Don’t even get me started on how our evil governor deprived us of high speed rail, because it would have cost us Wisconsin taxpayers too much, and instead we paid for trains we … [Read more…]

Spring Break

March 30, 2018 by ds83473@gmail.com

Those annoying girls on the bus. They were all like, “My 21st birthday – I remember most of it.” “I would’ve been ok if I’d stopped. I had 3 shots of rum on the way and then a vodka cranberry when we got there, and it was a double. And then another.” There was also … [Read more…]

$6.59 Broccoli, and Marching for our lives

March 24, 2018 by ds83473@gmail.com

Or, the weekend, from the normal annoying-ness of middle class life, to more inspirational activities. Friday was evidently my day to blow things up. I was working at home because my last three (out of 24) student advising appointments were by phone. First I blew up a website by installing conflicting plugins. Then I blew … [Read more…]

Spring Fever

March 14, 2018 by ds83473@gmail.com

Or malaise. Or something. It was lightly snowing while I walked downtown Tuesday, to catch the bus to Chicago to see Mozart. Like I said in my last post, it’s last time of the year when everyone starts trying to feel good because it’s spring, but I’m not ready, and also have this guilty feeling … [Read more…]

Library conference with a cold …

June 28, 2017 by ds83473@gmail.com

Came home with a nifty piece of conference schwag that I don’t think I’d ever picked up at conference before: a nasty summer cold complete with a chesty cough, and losing my voice.  Not my idea of fun. But I did manage to enjoy most of the conference. Friday night I went to a fancy … [Read more…]
