Deb's Lunch ... and Dinner and Breakfast too

Toronto ON

Last two days of TIFF

September 20, 2023 by ds83473@gmail.com

Which were Saturday Sept. 16 & Sunday Sept. 17. Saturday our first movie was at 11:30 so we went back to the St. Lawrence Market so we could each get the type of bacon sandwich we really wanted. For me that meant a streaky bacon sandwich and for Mark it meant another peameal (Canadian) bacon … [Read more…]

Tuesday & Wednesday TIFF ’23

September 16, 2023 by ds83473@gmail.com

I felt like Tuesday was the day of well-made movies that went for the easy feel-good, kind of a guilty pleasure, basically how I felt watching This Is Us, like I know I’m being manipulated but it’s kind of nice. I think we started with a little breakfast at the AirBNB. We’d gone to the … [Read more…]

TIFF ’23 2,3,4

September 13, 2023 by ds83473@gmail.com

That would be Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Saturday: The Boy and the Heron Mother, Couch American Fiction The Boy and the Heron is the newest from Studio Ghibli and Hayao Miyazaki. TBH I liked some of his other films better, especially The Wind Rises, that we also saw here at TIFF (I think). Miyazaki said … [Read more…]

TIFF, Last Day

September 21, 2017 by ds83473@gmail.com

On Sunday we were gone from the airbnb for over 12 hours – from 8:00 am to after 9:00 PM. It was like a very long work day, but at least included dinner. We got coffee at the closest Starbucks – not the fastest customer service but just down the stairs from the airbnb – … [Read more…]

TIFF, Days 8 & 9

September 19, 2017 by ds83473@gmail.com

Friday was another 3 movie day, two family dramas and one romantic comedy. We hung around at the airbnb and ate yogurts and banana and peanut butter toast for breakfast because The Wife, our first film, the first family drama, didn’t start until noon, plus we had dinner reservations between our 2nd & 3rd movies, … [Read more…]

TIFF, Day 6 & 7

September 16, 2017 by ds83473@gmail.com

On Wednesday, we started our day with bacon sandwiches at St Lawrence Market. That was a heap of bacon. After the bacon, we proceeded on to Darkest Hour, yet another cinematic depiction of WWII, before the US got involved, like Dunkirk, and yet another version of Winston Churchill. We last saw him played by John … [Read more…]

TIFF 2017, Days 4 & 5

September 14, 2017 by ds83473@gmail.com

On our day 4, Monday, our first movie was Happy End directed by Michael Haneke, the Austrian director. It’s kind of a sequel to sequel to 2012’s Amour, that I think we tried to see at our very first TIFF. It was really well done but hard to feel sympathetic for all those rich people. … [Read more…]

TIFF 2017, Days 1, 2, and 3

September 13, 2017 by ds83473@gmail.com

Days 1, 2, & 3 for us anyways – the Festival really started Thursday, so our day 1 was actually day 2 officially.  It didn’t start getting confusing until Monday, when all the introducers started saying, “welcome to day 5” when it was only day 4 for us. But that’s the next post. <grin> Day … [Read more…]
