We’re having a bit of a rocky start to the Denver vacation to meet the newest grandchild.<\/p>\n

First our flight got delayed a bunch. I got a text at about 6:30 AM that the our flight that was supposed to take off at 11:00 was not leaving at 1:48. Atypically we were flying out of Madison, so at least we could just stay home for a couple of extra hours before heading for the airport.<\/p>\n

But then when it got close to boarding for the later departure time, the plane turned out to be broken. Fortunately I\u00a0 was able to get on United’s website & re-book on a later flight and since we were in Madison\u2019s tiny airport it was only a few gates away. We got confirmed seats in an exit row – nice, with extra legroom, although in my heart of hearts I was a little uncertain that I really was fully able to perform the exit row duties with my knee. I decided to act as if, I was pretty sure that if there was a disaster the knee would not really stop me from the primary duty: getting up and getting the fuck out of the way as quickly a possible. And we got to Denver only about 5 hours later than expected, and checked in at the AirBNB, and went and saw Ethan & Megan & Rowan and got Thai for dinner at like 9:30 at night. So not completely terrible.<\/p>\n

It’s a bit small but really pretty OK.<\/p><\/div>\n

Today we got coffee at the kids favorite coffee place, and brought them some coffees and pastries, too. We discussed food plans and went to Whole Foods and shopped.<\/p>\n

Then we left them to feed the baby and nap, and came back to theAirBNB, and did some google mapping and found a deli to have lunch. We thought we could head for the city park after and I could get in some biking and Mark could walk. Mark walked over to the deli and I was going follow on one of the AirBNB-provided bikes, but I fell off the bike at the end of the driveway and bruised my left hand, so I drove.<\/p>\n

Giant breakfast burrito lunch<\/p><\/div>\n

After lunch Mark went off to walk but for me, instead of biking, I got to go back to the AirBNB and take a bunch of Advil (high blood pressure be dammed) and ice my hand.<\/p>\n

I sat on the far end of that extra bed under the window<\/a>, and read for about half an hour with my hand on some ice wrapped up in a washcloth. So I guess, even though I’m inside on a sunny summer day, maybe I don\u2019t suck so bad at vacation after all, because I actually spent some time doing nothing.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile back home in Chicago and Madison, John & Megan went to the driving range, and Al and Jasper and Emma went to La Fete de Marquette. Told Al if he’d gone on Friday I might’ve poured that beer, and told Ethan this could be what he could look forward to in 6 or 7 months.<\/p>\n

And oh yea, I guess I’m a Gopher for the week – borrowed one of Megan Beatty’s sweatshirts.<\/p>\n
