The weather Thursday was awful – rainy, icey, dark, a little bit of snow. And of course my timing was off – I planned to go in to work on Thursday, because I had a couple of meetings, and work at home Friday – so I had to go out in it. I started off walking but decided to take the bus to work, because the sidewalks were so slick, and it was so wet and unpleasant.<\/p>\n

Once I was there it was not a bad work day, and I actually got home a little on the early side.<\/p>\n

I made a double batch of the Food52 Sara’s Granola Bars<\/a>, to send to my brother for his ride<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Sara’s Granola Bars from Food52 – basically fancy rice krispie treats glued together with almond butter and honey<\/p><\/div>On Friday, we walked downtown and had breakfast at Short Stack. I brought along the pre-labeled box of granola bars for the bro, and a Boden skirt (too short, too tight in the waist, but really cute<\/a>) to return – $59 to spend on something else. After breakfast, Mark went to vote, and I walked home and worked. Got one class’s websites all graded – 31 of them – by about 5:30. Only 27 to go.<\/p>\n

We had decided to go see Batman v. Superman at a 7:00 PM show – everyone was watching the Badgers play and ultimately lose, unfortunately, their Sweet Sixteen Game, so good seats were still available. The movie was kind of a mess – with quite likeable parts – but doesn’t bode well for the beginning of Warner’s DC Comic-based movie series. Oh wait, I suppose that was Man of Steel<\/a>. I liked Henry Cavill and Amy Adams as Superman and Lois Lane, and Ben Affleck absolutely has the perfect jaw for Batman. When there was a shot of him driving the Batmobile with gritted teeth he looked just like the comic book. But they really wasted Jeremy Irons as Alfred, and there was very little of the snappy patter between the superheroes as they battle that we all like in the Joss Whedon and other directors Avengers\/Marvel Comics movies<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Yesterday, Saturday, Ethan came over for brunch. We had cranberry scones and a broccoli potato fritatta and bacon and fruit for breakfast. Using up some leftovers: potatoes, broccoli, chopped scallions that I had lugged back from our dinner party in Chicago; and some that were here: cheese sauce. Since I had the cheese sauce, I made the fritatta kind of the way we used to at Boehm’s restaurant<\/a>, years ago, like a heavy souffle. I sauteed the veggies, and separated four of the six the eggs, and whipped the whites. Then I blended the yolks with cheese sauce, folded in the whites and poured the whole thing over the eggs. Let it set up on the burner on the stove, the stove, then finished in the oven.<\/p>\n

Broccoli fritatta & the last strip of bacon<\/p><\/div>On Saturday night I kind of wanted to go to this art opening\/punk band show. Speaking of Boehm’s, and the ’80s, Bucky Pope, the Tar Babies and Negative Example guitar player, was the dishwasher at Boehm’s when I was a cook there.<\/p>\n

But we wimped out, and I finished grading, up to the last 5 students, with my laptop on my lap while watching House of Cards. Oh well, wouda, coulda, shoulda. Guess I can listen to them online<\/a>. Bill Feeney, one of the artists, is my neighbor, too.<\/p>\n

Couch potato Saturday night<\/p><\/div>Sunday, 3\/27, Easter and my brother’s 59th birthday<\/a>, we got up and I did a bunch of laundry and finally finished grading while Mark went for a walk. We had soft boiled eggs and toast and strawberries and over night oatmeal for breakfast. I saw the oatmeal recipe because I joined this new Food52 (not) recipes app – it’s kind of a Food52 instagram. Kind of fun. We’ll see how long I stay. Big plans for this evening include  washing my hair, doing the delicates laundry and hanging it all up, and folding the rest in front of more House of Cards and other Sunday night TV. Like Girls.<\/p>\n
