Day in Seattle"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I didn&#8217;t march, although there was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.debslunch.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Seattle-MLK-Jr.-Organizing-Coalition.pdf\">a march<\/a> starting at my niece&#8217;s high school, <a href=\"https:\/\/garfieldhs.seattleschools.org\/\">Garfield<\/a>, and going downtown, which would have been a nice walk, and it was a nice day.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, I made an apron. <\/p>\n\n\t\t<style that I&#8217;m doing for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wigardenexpo.com\/\">the Garden Expo<\/a>, the 2nd weekend in February, about printing pictures of vegetables on cloth &#8211; hence the iron on peppers.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m also going to do something with fabric that I ordered with my pictures printed on it, collards &amp; sunflowers, from this place in North Carolina called <a href=\"https:\/\/www.spoonflower.com\/\">Spoonflower<\/a>. I think a coin purse, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.debslunch.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/purse.jpg\">which I&#8217;ve done before<\/a>. I should have time to make that one the first weekend I&#8217;m back.<\/p>\n<p>It was a good day. Sati was very patient with me while I tried to get all the points on the assignments pages in the course, and due dates, and syllabus, to match in one of my courses &#8211; I don&#8217;t think we went out for our first walk until 11:00.<\/p>\n<p>After we came back, I made the apron. That took until about 3:00.<\/p>\n<p>I was thinking about taking Sati for a bath, she&#8217;s smelling a little doggy, and there&#8217;s a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rexseattle.com\/\">self-service dog wash<\/a> that&#8217;s near here, where Mimi used to work. But I chickened out because I&#8217;ve literally never bathed a dog before &#8211; plenty of cats, but never a dog. She got a trip to the dog park instead, which she seemed to enjoy, but was ready to leave after only about 15 minutes. We walked around the neighborhood by the dog park a bit, then she didn&#8217;t really want to get in the car, I kinda had to half lift, half shove her, which pretty much reaffirmed my decision <em>not<\/em> to bath her &#8211; she&#8217;s a little too big for me to pick up easily.<\/p>\n<p>My standard entertainment for one while I&#8217;ve been here has been going to see a movie, and <a href=\"https:\/\/g.co\/kgs\/2S2Nx7\">If Beale Street Could Talk<\/a> seemed the perfcet choice for MLK Day. So I bought a ticket and got dressed and fed the dog, and headed downtown. While I was getting ready, I must&#8217;ve decided to go for the all time worst house sitter prize &#8211; I knocked over one of Jen&#8217;s art lamps, inflicting some (probably repairable) damage in it, but absolutely shattering the glass top of the nightstand on that side of the bed. This is on top of breaking the dehumidifier &#8211; which they replaced, although it&#8217;s much smaller than the one I broke &#8211; and the SodaStream, which I replaced. That&#8217;s why I think I&#8217;m in the running for the prize.<\/p>\n<p>Beale St. was at the theater that doesn&#8217;t have a bar, so I stopped for a drink &#8211; Makers Mark Old Fashioned &#8211; at the bar at the Sheraton Hotel, which is right across the street from the theater. First place I ever stayed in Seattle, first time I came here in 1993. I didn&#8217;t eat dinner because I was planning to treat myself to a late dinner of barbecue at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thewoodshopbbq.com\/\">Wood Shop<\/a> on Jackson, the barbecue joint that was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.debslunch.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/manifestp1.jpg\">stop 2 on the manifest<\/a> for my brother&#8217;s 60th birthday ride. I guess since then, they&#8217;ve been on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives and had some crazy busy times. I was one of three people there. I almost got a sandwich, but instead opted for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.seattlemag.com\/eat-and-drink\/find-smoky-slow-cooked-religion-seattles-new-barbecue-church\">pulled-pork-topped-jalapeno mac &amp; cheese<\/a>, and it was swell.
