Friday – International Women’s Day<\/a> – we went to the Madison symphony. It was a night of three featured soloists – who all play in the band: the concertmaster, on violin; first clarinet; and the tuba player. I find it hard to call him “tubist” although that seems to be the correct term.<\/p>\n

I made the stovetop mac & cheese<\/a> from my stuff to cook list<\/a>, and Mark & I ate it with little weiners<\/a> in dough that had been in the freezer since super bowl.<\/p>\n

I also made dough for black bread<\/a> to take to the Culinary Ladies gathering, operating under the misapprehension that it was Saturday afternoon, when It was actually Sunday. When we got home from the symphony I shaped it into a long skinny loaf and a little round loaf and left it to rise overnight in the cold vestibule.<\/p>\n

Mark said it was a disappointing symphony. I thought it was OK except for the American in Paris tacked on at the end.<\/p>\n

For me it was the black bread that was a bit disappointing. I got up early Saturday and baked it. It didn’t rise quite right. I think I need new yeast (bought some later that day). Then we went for a walk, before the rain started. We got home in time for me to get to yoga, but I fooled around too much and realized I wouldn’t make it, so I used the morning to do errands. Got the car washed. Went grocery shopping. Bought water softener salt. Did laundry.<\/p>\n

For first breakfast, I had some of the black bread buttered, and a little Jarlsberg, and that was probably when it tasted the best – 2 hours out of the oven. Second breakfast was avocado toast when I got back from shopping.<\/p>\n

We thought maybe we’d go out for dinner, just the two of us, get steaks, since we hadn’t gone on Valentine’s day. Spent the afternoon grading, and all of a sudden I looked up and the rain had changed to snow. Because the weather had turned for the worst, and Mark was developing a cold, we decided to order a pizza. Mark wanted to get it delivered, and I didn’t even want to ask for delivery, because I thought it’d be kinda ridiculous – and sure enough, the delivery time was an hour and a half. I went and picked it up. Tried a new combination, broccoli, sausage, and pepperoni.<\/p>\n

Sunday was spring ahead, ugh. We got up and shoveled and went back to Colectivo for coffee. Neither of us was completely happy with our shoe choice. I wore my insulated rubber boots which were good for the slush pools, but a little slippy. Mark wore running shoes, more sure footed, but less waterproof.<\/p>\n

We had full English breakfast for our Sunday morning repast<\/p><\/div>\n

I did a little bit of getting the tax stuff together.<\/p>\n

I added garlic oil to the zucchini butter I’d thawed out, and took it to the Culinary Ladies potluck party with some vegan cheese spread I’d picked up at the coop. I couldn’t quite tell if it was good or gloppy. It was garlicky.<\/p>\n

And now it’s Monday. Good news\/bad news. A beautiful sunny day, but kind of icy underfoot. Milwaukee got the Democratic convention<\/a>, and New York Public Schools are going vegetarian<\/a> on Mondays. And I can’t figure out what the hell with this Ethiopian plane crash<\/a> – it was a Boeing, so must’ve been built in the US, and none of the news outlets is saying that.<\/p>\n

Monday sidewalks refreezing<\/p><\/div>\n

I’ve been having these little dizzy episodes<\/a> all weekend – I think it’s sinus infection and messed up ears. But I’m afraid its something worse.<\/p>\n
