{"id":5916,"date":"2020-01-07T15:49:29","date_gmt":"2020-01-07T21:49:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.debslunch.com\/blog\/?p=5916"},"modified":"2020-01-07T15:52:26","modified_gmt":"2020-01-07T21:52:26","slug":"monday-for-real","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.debslunch.com\/blog\/2020\/01\/07\/monday-for-real\/","title":{"rendered":"Monday for real"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I might&#8217;ve called last Thursday &amp; Friday the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.debslunch.com\/blog\/2020\/01\/03\/i-guess-the-holidays-are-officially-over\/\">official end to the holidays<\/a>, and it felt kind of like a Monday coming to work on Thursday, but I could still say it was only sort of a work day. Plus there was a weekend after only 2 days. Today was much more of a real Monday, although campus is still pretty quiet until students come back the 21st.<\/p>\n<p>We had a nice weekend for the first one of the year, and I hardly worked at all, only answered a few student emails and deleted useless emails back to Dec. 1. We watched a lot of TV, Mrs. Maisel, and <a href=\"https:\/\/g.co\/kgs\/GQP22f\">City of Ember<\/a>, a 10+ year-old movie, with a really young Saoirse Ronan, Bill Murray as the bad mayor, and Tim Robbins. And Martin Landau was still alive and in it. Which was better re-heated. The garage is getting pretty empty.<\/p>\n<p>Sunday morning we had French toast, made from ghosts of Christmas past. The French toast batter had whipped cream from the Christmas trifle (I made way too much for the four people we had for Christmas dinner, and Mark and I ate what we could of it New Years Day, but a good bit went down the disposal &#8211; that smelled like ghosts of Christmas), and most of the bread was Heike&#8217;s stollen. The slice with the sesame seeds is newer bread from <a href=\"https:\/\/batchbakehouse.com\/\">Batch<\/a>, stuffed with cream cheese and apricot jam solids that I strained out of the jam that went into the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.debslunch.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/jam3.jpg\">apricot jam cookies<\/a>. And the potato puffs, made from Thanksgiving mashed potatoes and cheese, rolled in bread crumbs and frozen, were an appetizer I forgot to put out at the Cookie party. They were the motley kind that I like, but they were a bit too outdoor for us. I gave away more cookies and cleaned out containers &#8211; see overleaf.<\/p>\n<p>Everything that can be done to not listen to the news too much.
