I think I’m getting somewhat used to them. My arms & chest are less sore – I think Thursday was the worst night.

I’ve gotten out on the crutches a few times.

Wednesday I went to work – I have a parking spot right under my building and can take the elevator up. There are some pros and cons of working at work vs. WFH. My computer set up at work is best for standing. I have an ancient standup desk that I got from University surplus in 1998. I think it was a public access kiosk in the 1990s and even though it has a big crank for the purpose, it doesn’t go up and down very well. I have my large monitor on that desk and can plugin my laptop. I can stand there and rest my bad leg on one of the legs of the desk and not put weight on it. When I want to work seated, though, the only option is to pick up my laptop and go over and sit at my probably even more ancient metal state-supplied desk with a hutch. So no big monitor. The hallways are nice and wide and the bathrooms have handicap buttons I can punch to open the doors.

At home my desk goes up & down but lots more stairs & no elevators. Or handicap buttons.

And this week classes aren’t in session so my building was empty empty empty. It’ll be a whole different story when classes start Tuesday. And lines for the elevators. So I told admin I’m basically WFH till March.

Thursday Susan and I went to Colectivo by car and that was OK, and then Friday I drove myself to a haircut and that was equally OK.

Saturday I didn’t go anyplace and stayed in my pajamas until almost 2:00. I made challah & chocolate chip scones, but no pics. There’s a hunk of scone in my messy brekkie, and and a shot of some other batch as the overleaf – 7-26-2020 the file name sez – they always look pretty much the same.

Saturday messy brekkie feeling kinda sorry for myself

Although I did switch out the nice new soft L.L. Bean sweat shirt that I just bought for an older L.L. Bean quilted sweat shirt jacket because I was going to do some cooking and I didn’t want to mess up the new one. I bought the quilted one in I think in the spring of 2021 and it was a presentable warm thing to wear to work, especially because I had an in-person class Fall 2021. Now one of the elbows is a little worn. I have a hard time wrapping my head around the jacket’s age – still think it’s new because of that pandemic time collapse thing.

When the jacket was new, Fall 2021, in the bathroom at the coffee place we stop at in Harvard IL when we’re taking the train to Chicago. We had a nice brunch of scrambled eggs made creamy with cream cheese & sour cream, fried mashed potato cakes, bacon, and toast – choice of sourdough I made last week or challah I made yesterday. But again I didn’t take any pictures, and now it’s too dark.

Al and Emma and I had two phone calls discussing my knee, and in the end the start of Oma day care, at least regular weekly shifts, has been pushed back until May. I’ll probably do some random days in March & April if I get cleared by the docs. It’s only reasonable; Emma goes back to work Feb 21, and Feb 14 I have my first followup with sportsmed, and that will only be 4 weeks of non-weight-bearing and my PT predicts they’re going to say another 2 weeks. And we’re really only concerned about healing the stress fracture right now. The meniscus tears & arthritis that showed up on the MRI, although disturbing, won’t be healed by the non-weight-bearing, but everybody seems to be saying that I am nowhere near needing a new knee. They have other patients walking around with worse meniscus tears and more arthritis than me. I think the PT put it the best, she said, “if it doesn’t hurt we don’t care”. The sportsmed doc said he had someone with bone on bone arthritis who’s been that way for years and not gotten a new knee. Evidently I still have some cartilage.

Dat baby turned 2 months on Thursday and he is chubby and luscious.

Jasper 2 months

Heads up!

Last weekend I made an almond puff pastry thing that was good but on the sweet side.
