On Sunday morning I got up and we had finally trapped a couple of raccoons. I think the trap slamming shut waked me at 4:30 AM, and when I went out a little before 7:00, there they were. Note how, in less than three hours, the one on the left – the mean one – had already seriously shredded the plywood under the cage.<\/p>\n

I texted the animal control company and they said they’d be along to pick them up.<\/p>\n

I went for a walk, and when I came back the one on the right had eaten all the food and gone to sleep in disgust. The one on the left – the mean one – had eaten all the food and was trying hard to get out.<\/p>\n

I was driving to Harvard to get the train to Chicago, so I could meet up with Belana and Mark and go see Wilco at the Pritzker Pavilion. The guy to take the raccoons away arrived just as I was carrying my bags to the car. He removed the full traps and set up two new empty ones.<\/p>\n

It was gates at 5:00 and show at 6:30, so before we went in, we got sandwiches at Eataly and had a picnic.<\/p>\n

The show was fun except I cannot sit on the ground comfortably – at least not in the knee-length denim skirt I was wearing. Maybe in leggings – but I never have been good at sitting crosslegged. Our seats were sold as lawn and listen – they did not have screens – and they really were just that. We could not see the band, only the light show. Seems like the set list<\/a> was quite similar to Madison on Friday<\/a> and Minneapolis<\/a> the night before. And the light show was similar to what they had when we saw them at Overture Center in 2011<\/a>.<\/p>\n

I had a long texted conversation with one of my former students – I was watching families with little kids on the grass and thought she and her writer\/music reviewer husband and daughter might actually be there. Instead they were at Ravinia watching the CSO<\/a> perform 1812 Overture with real cannons. Itzhak Perlman conducting.<\/p>\n

I played around taking pictures of clouds. I’ve even got one of them as my iPhone wallpaper now.<\/p>\n

Rach discovered another trapped raccoon on Monday morning, but no pics. Three gone, and maybe that’s all of the destructive little f**kers.<\/p>\n

I thought I had lots to tell you about cooking and food, but somehow doesn’t seem so important right now.\u00a0 I did spend a bunch of time on Saturday peeling, skinning, and chopping tomatoes, and cooking corn. I blanched some and roasted some, and cooked some on the cob, too.<\/p>\n

And tonight I made Marion Morash’s eggplant with tomatoes and cream and us girls ate it for dinner with a salad with some of the roasted corn. But my head and sinuses hurt, and I’m fretting about John & Megan driving back to Chicago from Megan’s dad’s funeral in Iowa … I suppose it’s time to go collapse on the couch.<\/p>\n
